Life Snippets

1. Just got my full-time work time-table...will be beginning next week...oh boy those lovely lounging days are over...but at least the money will start coming in.
2. Bathroom still not done - loo, sink and all accessories are still in the warehouse...but the time is nearing for that plumbing dig...meanwhile the mad hunters of the valley are dressed in full army regalia, whistling and cursing at their dogs in order to catch 'minute' and very cute rabbits! What the heck is wrong with these people?
3. I am preparing for my Spanish exam in November - I took my 'first-ever' Spanish class a few days ago alongside Annie, a friend who is also sitting the exam...we made the mistake of not asking the teacher beforehand how much she was going to charge (we know her and thought she wouldn't fleece us!)...how wrong can one be - there was loads of coughing, spitting and tearing into purses looking for money when she told us the colossal sum she charges ....80€ for 2 hours of drumming grammar into us through photocopies as she sat swinging legs from the teacher's desk! For the same class, I would have charged 50€. Anyway we are now trying to wheezle our way out of continuing class as we can't afford it....but we have to do it in a way so as not to offend said-Teacher as she is the oral examiner!
4. Poetry-wise I have not written anything but the ideas are flowing and I'm making notes. I have nearly pressed the 30:30 button on a few occasions as I'd love to join but some sane voice from some-where stopped me in the nick of time...after the exam for sure...I am so looking forward to that.
5. Best New Poets have told me that my 200$ will be winging its way to me pretty soon. I received the Arsenic Lobster Anthology - it's a great read.
6. Am reading a lot of Rita Anne Higgins Poetry - love her work.
** That's about it...today is the Feast of Saint Pilar and everyone is free - bravo for how the Spanish use these Saints for their own ends. Olé!

that $200 from best new poets sounds ultra-cool, liz! just typing that amount makes me want to do a rain dance. hee.
can't wait to see you back in 30:30 in november. does taking that spanish exam also have something to do with your having been a spanish inquisitor? you are beginning to scare me. teehee.
and yay! i'm so glad that your neighbor is adopting foxy. hope to see more pictures of her!
a.
p.s. not much of my dad's work on the internet. because of the fakes going around, we kind of decided it would be better this way. i did write an article on him ages ago, with pictures (rather horrid scans): here.
Hi Arlene,
Thanks for the link about your dad - I love his work - gosh that's amazing about the fakes - what a hassle.
Foxy has landed back and is with our neighbour...she must have got escape-artist tips from Dick as yesterday she did some digging in the earth beneath the door and escaped down to us - she was all full of beans and Dick was squealing with delight...we got her back to her new home where she has a sort of sugar-daddy - a quite oldish blind male dog for company! : ) Not quite up to the calibre of Dick ; ))

Hi Liz -
80 euros for two hours of Spanish is a lot! My husband charges about 24 euros per hour for Italian. Not that that helps.
smile
arlene -
i dug your dad's paintings.
thanks
Hi Sarah,
Yeah that's about what we charge too : )
