Calendar Girl (Oxfam)

On the 2nd day into my holiday, I went into an Internet cafe to check my e-mail and got this delightful message telling me that I was one of 6 Poets chosen for the
Oxfam Calendar Poetry Competition The message also referred to our conversation the previous evening which needless to say threw me a bit as I hadn't spoken to anyone regarding winning the comp...I imagined it must have been my mum or our friends who were staying in our house but after checking with them, it turns out that they didn't chat with anyone either ...so the mystery still exists as to who they spoke to...anyway, I am over the moon at being in the Calendar as I will be alongside 6 well-known guest poets (Moya Cannon, Patrick Deeley, Eamon Grennan, Vona Groarke, Dave Lordan and Eilean, Ni Chuileanain.)There will also be twelve specially commissioned art works by artists represented by the Blue Leaf Gallery.
There is just one little spanner in the works (or maybe two), on re-reading the poem that won, I have turned against it slightly for some weird reason - it's strange as usually I feel pretty ok about my poems but between writing it, sending it out and it winning - there are a few things about it that bug me but hopefully I'll get back to liking it again! ; ) The other little spanner is that I've been invited to read the poem at the launch but it is very doubtful that I'll be able to get time off work etc AND it would be my first time reading in public and no doubt at all my nerves would be in full-swing! Anyway, all in all, good news and maybe it's the motivation I need to get off my butt and go read in public... with shivers and all in tow! ; )
